Is antimony trioxide a flame retardant?
Direct answer
No. It is a synergist. On its own it does not provide flame retardancy; it enhances the performance of a halogenated flame retardant already present in the formulation.
Technical detail
The mechanism depends on antimony and the halogen donor working together within the system.
